2004 GENERAL ELECTION
November 2, 2004

While there may not be a Green victory in Illinois this election,
we should be very proud of the Green candidates' efforts.
There is more work to do in the coming months and years.

*****************

2004 Green Party Candidates in Illinois:

Write in David Cobb for President
In the following Southern Illinois counties, David Cobb filed the necessary paperwork to qualify as a write-in candidate:  Marion, Jefferson, Franklin, St. Clair, Madison, Clinton, Washington, Perry, Randolph, Jackson, Williamson, and Union.

If you don't mind, let us know that you voted for David Cobb, so we can make sure that the election authorities are counting his write-in votes.  scigreens@mvn.net

Illinois Green Party candidates for the following positions
received enough of the vote to establish their districts.

8th District State Representative
88th District State Representative
115th State Representative,
Champaign County Board
Fayette County Board
Union County State's Attorney

In the primary elections of 2006,
over 150,000 voters in the state will be able to choose a Green primary ballot in
these districts.  Under state law, a voter will be able to choose a
hybrid ballot with a Green primary ballot for County Board and a
Democratic, Republican, or Independent ballot for every other race.

These election results are unofficial; they have been compiled from county and city websites.
The website for the Illinois State Board of Elections states that the canvass will be published December 3, 2004, that Illinois counties have until November 6  to count provisional ballots, and that Illinois counties have until November 23 to canvass.

ILLINOIS POLITICS

July 2004:  Democrats and Republicans don't want things to change.  They don't want to share their power.

While we wait for the Illinois legislature to adopt a budget, I wonder...
How many Illinois citizens know that Illinois Democrats spent a lot of time, energy, and money
to get Ralph Nader, Scott Summers, other Greens, and other party's candidates
kicked off the Illinois ballot for November?

On the other hand, when Illinois Republicans realized
that the Illinois Republican convention would be held too late to get George Bush on the Illinois ballot
(yes, really),
they asked Illinois Democrats
(who control both legislative houses and the governorship)
to change Illinois statutory law.
And incredibly, the Democrats did!!
