South Central Illinois Green Party (Mt. Vernon)

The South Central Illinois Green Party is proud to announce
its nominee for President of the United States:

Ms. McKinney is a former Congresswoman from Georgia (D),
serving from 1993 to 2003 and 2005 to 2007.

She will appear on the November general election ballot,
along with many other Green Party candidates in various districts in Illinois.

Vic was the Green Party's candidate for Congress in the 19th Congressional District.
He won the party's primary in February.
He will be missed.
Rich Whitney described Vic as
"a staunch advocate for the Green Party and long-time advocate for working people."
He had integrity.

The South Central Illinois Green Party extends its condolences
to Carolyn Roberts and the other members of Vic's family.

We are very proud of the clean campaigns run by the ILGP candidates.
ILGP gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney received 10+% of the vote in November 2006.
(It is apparent that he would have made the best Governor for our state.)
As a result the ILGP is considered to be an "established party" under state law.

That means that the ILGP is looking for progressive citizens
to build the ILGP into a force for positive political change.

For the first time in Illinois history, the Green Party had a statewide Primary Election ballot.
Next, Green Party candidates will appear on the November General Election ballot.

You'll need to go to your county clerk's office.

Requirements: Be a U.S. citizen, age 18 or older, and
a resident of your current address for at least 30 days.

Bring a photo ID (such as a driver's license) and
proof of residence (such as a recent utility bill).

The U.S. Congressional Representative for our district, John Shimkus (R), recently told the Springfield Journal-Register that in his opinion the best form of government is a constitutional monarchy.

“When I taught government and history,” Shimkus added, “by definition, what is the best form of government, the most simple, is a compassionate monarchy - a monarchy that loves and respects its citizens and … is able to make easy decisions without the weight of a bureaucracy we’d have to fund.”

This is the politician who, when first elected in 1996, promised to serve no more than 12 years. Well, he's had his 12 years, but, breaking his promise, he is running again.
And we are on our way to a monarchy; we already have an oligarchy.

for the first time in history.

On July 8, 2005, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that a new study provides the strongest evidence yet that Agent Orange is associated with adult-onset diabetes.

It's the third and final report for a 20-year study on long-term health issues related to the herbicide's use.

The Air Force Health Study compiled results of the 2002 physical examination of 1,951 veterans.

The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) reports that Senate Bill 1700 has died in a House committee.
CUB is the organization that fights on behalf of citizens against utility companies
(www.CitizensUtilityBoard.org).
SB 1700 would have led to higher telephone rates.
Senator Frank C. Watson voted on the side of the utility companies.
Senator John O. Jones voted "Present".

It was 60 years ago today that the United States dropped the first atom bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.
About 80,000 people died as a result of the impact and explosion, and
another 60,000 died later that year due to radiation poisoning.
The City of Hiroshima estimates that as of August 6, 2004,
the cumulative death toll of atomic-bomb victims was 237,062.

The Green Party opposes all research, testing, production and deployment of nuclear weapons of any size, in any manner and place, on moral grounds and also on the grounds of its contamination of the environment, production of radioactive and toxic waste, and direct connection to the nuclear power and food irradiation industries.

Depleted Uranium
In Iraq, the U.S. military has been using depleted uranium, which is,
contrary to the impression given by its name, very highly radioactive. It cannot be cleaned up.
The U.S. military and other government agencies know about the health hazards of depleted uranium,
but they overlook it because it helps them win battles and because it uses the leftover toxic and radioactive uranium waste, after uranium ore is enriched, for nuclear reactor fuel and nuclear bombs.
Depleted-uranium-hardened weapons, called "weapons of indiscriminate destruction", is forbidden by the same part of the Geneva Convention that forbids the use of "weapons of mass destruction."
DU munitions will lethally contaminate the combat zone for thousands of years.
And DU weapons are currently being made in Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge in Marion.

BOYCOTT EXXONMOBIL

The Exxpose Exxon campaign:
"A group of environmental and social justice organizations have launched a coordinated campaign in protest of petroleum giant ExxonMobil's efforts to cast doubts on the science of global warming and attempts to lobby for opening the still-pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling."
The organizations calling for this boycott are the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, MoveOn.org, U.S. Public Interest Research Group, Alaska Wilderness League, Defenders of Wildlife, Friends of the Earth, Natural Resources Defense Council, Physicians for Social Responsibility, The Ocean Conservancy, and the Union of Concerned Scientists.
