SEASON SUMMARY

Game # 1 - Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m.

SUCCESS!!

BACARDI BATS        13
F.O.P.  # 241              7

Amazing, really.  A real team effort.  And to think we almost didn't have enough players to play!
Lowell and Chris played their first game for us.
Lowell wasn't even on the roster until 10 minutes before game time.
And he says he hasn't played in more than 10 years.
But he played great.
Rick had four hits; John T., Mike, Lowell, and Scott had 3 hits.
Matt and John T. each hit a 3-run homer.
See the line score.

Game # 6 Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at 8 p.m.

BACARDI BATS    14
DIGITAL DAWGS  13

This was a thriller!
We trailed 10 - 6 going into the bottom of the sixth,
but scored 6 to go ahead 12 - 10,
only to see the Dawgs score 3 in the top of the seventh to go back on top, 13 - 12.
In our last at-bats, John T. took the pressure off with a leadoff homer (his second of the game),
Scott followed with a single,
and John Porter scored pinchrunner Reid with the game winner!
We're still undefeated (6-0)!!!!!!

Game # 7 - Friday, June 6, at 9 p.m.

THE MAGIC CONTINUES!

BACARDI BATS               20
KING CITY LIQUORS      19

Another amazing team effort.
At 15 minutes to game time, we had only 6 players and were calling for help.
Thanks to Tim and Mark and Ed for showing up on short notice.
We fell behind 6 to 0 after an inning and a half.
But in the third inning, Scott's 3-run homer pulled us to 7 to 5,
and we went ahead in the fourth.
The lead changed hands every half inning until the end.
We went in to the bottom of the seventh trailing 19 to 18.
In the seventh, Mike and Greg singled,
Vito singled home Mike with the tying run,
and Greg scored the game winner on Rick's single!
Still undefeated (7-0)!!!!!!!

Game # 8 - Monday, June 9, at 6 p.m.

THE MAGIC CONTINUES!!

BACARDI BATS                  13
TOLLE ROAD CUSTOMS  11

Well, we fell behind 6 to 1 in the very first inning
but followed with our biggest inning of the season in the second--
nine straight players scored!!
We hung on from there.
John T. and Jared had three hits each,
and Patrick was two for two.

Games # 9 & 10 - Monday, June 16, at 7 & 8 p.m.

7 p.m.
BACARDI BATS              7
BEST AMUSEMENTS    3

It wasn't pretty.  Against a winless team, we didn't get a hit until the third inning.
We didn't score until the fourth.
Greg and Rick got hits; Reid's single drove them both in, and then
Matt and Scott hit back to back homers!
Patrick hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
Reid, Matt, and Patrick had 2 RBI each.

8 p.m.
DAVE HART BASEMENTS   12
BACARDI BATS                      8

They played us a close game the first time (# 5: Bacardi 18, DHB 15),
and this time they got us.
Hitting in the clutch, which has been our strength this season, wasn't so good this game (8 for 22).
There were certainly highlights.
We were leading or tied the whole game until the sixth.
Patrick hit a three-run homer in the fifth.
Scott was three for three.

Game # 11 - Wednesday, June 18, at 9 p.m.

BACARDI BATS    18
PASTA HOUSE      2

Back on the winning track, in a big way!
(But it was tied at 2 after three innnings.)
We erupted for five in the fourth, five in the fifth, and six in the sixth,
for our first short game of the year.
Rick had four hits, and Matt, Bob, and Greg had three each.
Greg led us with 3 RBI.

Games # 12 & 13 - Monday, July 7, at 8 & 9 p.m.

8 p.m.
KING CITY LIQUORS      19
BACARDI BATS                7

(5 innings)

9 p.m.
BACARDI BATS   22

F.O.P. #241           6
(5 innings)

Ouch!  In that first game, the 19-day layoff showed; there were many mental mistakes.
Hopefully, we're back on track after the second game.
On the night, Rick, Jared, John T., Scott, and John P. all had five hits.
Matt was 4 for 7; Jason was 3 for 5; Ken was 2 for 2.

Game # 14 - Monday, July 14, at 8 p.m.

BACARDI BATS      17
RICK'S TOWING    16
(8 innings)

This game was a real doozy.

With the second place team looking on,
we let leads of 11 to 4, 12 to 6, and 15 to 8 slip away.
The opponents caught us in the top half of the seventh inning, taking the lead, 16 to 15.

But that just set the stage for more Bacardi Bats dramatics.

In the bottom of the seventh, trailing by a run, our first two batters made outs,
but Mark singled, Vito walked, and Troy delivered a game-tying single.
The opponents went down 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth.
With one out in our half, Rick doubled and Matt's single drove him home with the game-winner!

John T and Greg had monster games at the plate:
John T was 3 for 4, with two homers–a three-run shot over the scoreboard and a solo shot.
Greg had a single, a double, and a triple.
Ed and Mark were both 2 for 2,
Troy was 2 for 2,
Vito was 2 for 3 with a walk,
and Bob had 2 hits, too.

Games # 15 and 16

8 p.m.
BACARDI BATS     25
DIGITAL DAWGS     9
(6 innings)

9 p.m.
BACARDI BATS     20
FROSTY MUG         8
(6 innings)

These two games were very similar--we started slowly in each game.
We trailed 5 to 4 after the first three innings of the first game, and we led 7 to 5 after the fourth.
But we scored to 6 in the fifth inning and 12 (a season high) in the sixth inning.
In the second game, we led 7 ot 6 after the fourth, but then we scored 9 in the fifth and 4 in the sixth.

On the night,
Matt provided a lot of offense:
7 for 9 (including 2 doubles, 2 triples, and a homer), 6 runs scored, and 7 RBIs.
John Porter was 5 for 9, with 5 runs scored.
Troy was 4 for 4, and Mark and Vito were each 3 for 3.
And Mark also had 5 RBIs.

Games # 17 and 18 - Wednesday, July 30, at 8 and 9 p.m.

8 p.m.
BACARDI BATS           17
KING CITY LIQUORS  14

9 p.m.
BACARDI BATS         18
DIGITAL DAWGS         4

The story of game one was the 9 walks we received (6 of those scored).
Jared was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Scott was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs, and
Mark and Mike were each 2 for 2.
Ken had the defensive play of the night.
It was the top of the fifth with the game tied 10 to 10.
Ken ranged into the hole between first and second to grab a grounder,
and then spun and threw a strike to Matt at second for a force out.
Instead of runners on first and third with no one out, it was a runner on first with one out.
They didn't score and we scored two in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

In the second game, we batted around in the third inning.
Reid was 4 for 4, Vito was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Troy was 3 for 3 (including a HR) with 2 RBIs, and
Jared, Ed, and Mike were each 2 for 3.

After these games, Bob headed back to Mississippi for school.
Good luck, Bob!
Bob was one of our regulars.  Thanks for helping us to the regular season championship.
